I went into this one cold, and it was "a woman finds her husband lying/cheating" storyline, and I just got bored with the book. I probably listened to more than I would have read, just because I tuned out for a few bits.

I loved Mackintosh's first book I Let You Go, so I was excited for this one. Unfortunately, maybe my expectations were too high for I See You. I found the storyline a bit much, and Zoe a bit annoying. As you may know, reading my other reviews, domestic suspense and suspense novels are getting a bit too meh for me. It can be that someone who has not read many domestic suspenses or really likes them will enjoy this. I would read other reviews and see if this one is for you.DNF @43%

For some reason, I had it in my head My Lady Jane was a historical fiction for young adults. Instead, this is a fantasy retelling novel for young adults. I like both genres, but definitely prefer more of a historical look at real life characters. Once I had that in my head it was hard to read this one. I had the whole series (and the Mary book as well) on my TBR but have removed it. I would not be the best audience for this oneDNF @34%

I found the characters and plot a bit unrealistic, and just could not get beyond the 40% mark. Please see link below for Come Home's review for further explanation. I would be repeating lot of the same things.

I have been reading Fannie Flagg since my late teens and have enjoyed her Southern humour, endearing and quirky characters and the escape to a cute small town. In one of my Goodreads group we have been read Flagg's book as a buddy read. Every few months we read one of Flagg's book, chronologically written. I had stopped reading Flagg when this book had come out. I had taken it out at the library, and didn't get too far into it. I then didn't put the next book on hold and slowly I stopped reading her. Last Fall/Winter (2020), the sequel to Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe was coming out so I wanted to reread it, and maybe visit some of her other books. Finally, I had made it back to where I had stopped reading her...and I just couldn't read this one. I read about 15% and I was not caring for the story and it seemed too much. I decided to read the comments in our buddy read thread to get some motivation to continue. Instead, I decided to call it.DNF @17%

I could not get into this novel at all. I made it to about 25% of the novel and gave up. I really enjoyed his novel, Absolute Power and the writing. I think it was just the story that didn't work for me.

I listened to 15% of this audiobook. I stopped it a few times to go do other things...fine, I made up reason to do other things to stop it. I even stared at the wall for a few minutes before I worked up the courage to go back in. I've been pickier about what I will read. I have a TBR list that I will never complete so I don't have time to force myself to finish a book for the sake of finishing it. If it doesn't capture me then I am aborting mission.
I know as DNF (did not finish) you are thinking why would I still post a review? I think as a reviewer, I am not only helping the publisher and author with word of mouth, but more importantly I am letting fellow readers know my own opinion on a book. Good or bad, I think it's important to be honest about your reading experience (as long as you remain kind).
I started to think maybe I am being too picky and just writing this book off without a real chance. So, I turned to the Goodreads community. Wow, I have not seen so many 1 star ratings have such long reviews. Each one had the same issues I had with the novel, so I will not rehash it too much here. I was kind of curious on who the murderer was, or if it was just an accidental death, but in reading the reviews here, I totally lost that. The narrator doesn't really put much emotion into her reading so it just feels like a cold reading. Not that she has much to work with as the writing is a bit repetitive and a bit bland. I was a huge fan of Lisa Scottoline, especially with her legal thrillers - series and standalone. With her new standalone domestic suspense novels, I have probably disliked more than I have liked. I have finished them in the past but I just cannot push myself with this one or even with Don't Go. I am still a fan so I will always give her books a shot, but if it's looking like a miss, I may just abandon it so I don't come to resent it in my reviews.DNF@15%

I have loved most of Roberts' novels in her "In Death" series, but her standalone and series as Nora Roberts have been a hit or miss for me. I really enjoy her small town series (Sea Swept and The MacKade Brothers: Rafe and Jared) and her grittier romantic suspense (Carnal Innocence and Carolina Moon). Her older romance with a smidge of mystery have mostly not been to my taste (Three Fates and The Villa). Though, if I have known that it is more romance before going into the books, I have liked them (The Liar). Nightwork reminded me of older works of Roberts like Sweet Revenge which I could not make beyond the first few pages, and like Three Fates and The Villa (mentioned above). I did try to listen to the audiobook (from eLibrary), but that did not help either. I will always try a Nora Roberts book, and consider myself a fan, but some just don't work for me.

I could not finish this book just because it wasn't what I thought it would be. It was a bit more academic than I thought. It wasn't engaging, so I don't think I would even get the eBook and read over time. It gave off the textbook vibe.

I know this book is on so many "best of 2022" book lists, but I just couldn't finish it. I found like it dragged a lot. I think if you like the main character this book will work for me. I just didn't feel invested in the characters or the story. Heck, if I am not curious enough to find out who the killer is, then I know it's time to DNF. I do like that this novel has diverse characters, but I did feel a bit uncomfortable on how different races were portrayed. I would recommend reading some of the 5 star reviews and some 1 star reviews and you should be able to get an idea if this is the book you want to try.

How am I on book 54 of this series and still loving it? Other than the Baby-Sitter's Club and Sweet Valley High I don't think I have read so many books in a series without getting annoyed. I feel so crochety so am glad I am still reading this series and loving it. I love the balance of gritty and humour between the characters. Dallas and Peabody are my favourite buddy team!RATING: 4.5 STARS

Another fabulous instalment in the Renee Ballard and Harry Bosch series. It is a gritty police procedural that usually has me in the grip till the end. Bosch is one of my favourite characters, and I also like Mickey and Renee a lot. Connelly is great with character and story and this really makes for a great novel. While I suggest reading Connelly chronologically so that you can fall into the way it all develops, they can be read alone for the story.
