Plausibility continues its slow backwards escape out the door in this fourth Flavia de Luce mystery, as the trope of secret wartime spy activities makes an appearance and changes our perception (or tries to) of characters both new and…

First of all, I am in love with precocious 11-year-old Flavia de Luce, the heroine of this mystery series. She has her own chemistry lab and is far too smart for her own good. It?s Christmastime, and Flavia is tucked away in her…

An impromptu theatrical performance at Buckshaw goes south when a sudden snowstorm strands most of the townspeople for the night — and not everyone is alive come morning. Eleven-year-old Flavia de Luce takes time away from her plot to…

This is my favorite of the Flavia de Luce series, when a film crew and famous actress comes to live and work at Buckshaw. In all this turmoil and drama there unfolds the strangest of mysteries and Flavia, who,on top of her scheme to catch…

Flavia has an invasion of actors into her home as Father rents it to a movie company. Sure to provide delight in the new characters -- you will not be able to resist this snoop. Her explosive chemical antics are sure to provide fun. She…

If you love the world and characters of Flavia de Luce, you'll still probably enjoy this entry in the series, but it is likely the weakest to date. As usual, Bradley does a good job of showing the childlike side of Flavia, as she…

I overdid it with mystery novels when I was younger and I haven't read many of them of late because of that fact. This is one of the very few in the genre that I still enjoy. For me, it's all about Flavia! The actual mysteries are fun,…

A film company descends on Buckshaw, having leased the hall for filming a movie. Meanwhile, Flavia is intent on creating a trap for Father Christmas in order to prove to her sisters that he indeed exists. Murder and mayhem ensue in the…

I love the vivid language and the tongue-in-cheek manner in which Alan Bradley creates this unique heroine and tells her story. She is an amazing, adventurous, witty 11-year-old girl with a penchant for solving crime. What fun!

Another very enjoyable instalment of Flavia. Might not appeal to those who want a chance to suss out the whodunnit for themselves, but fun to read and a good tale, if a little short on well-explained motivation (I'm still not sure why that…

Another terrific installment of the Flavia series. This book is easily my favourite one thus far...keep 'em coming!

Again Flavia is the centre of a murder mystery set in the freezing cold of a blizzard that moves in and rages around Buckshaw, her ancestral home. She is definitely a self-starter and knows no impediments when it comes ot working on her…

I love all of the Flavia books, but this is my favorite so far. She has an excellent vocabulary and expresses herself the way I would like to! Very fun read!

A much anticipated read that has lived up to expectations. Once again, fabulously eccentric characters (mostly likeable), well written dialogue and just enough ongoing sinister thoughts and deeds to maintain a delightful sense of the…

Fourth book in the Flavia de Luce series. This one takes place in Buckshaw, the estate home where eleven year old Flavia lives with her irritating sisters and father. Due to suffering finances, Flavia’s father opens his estate to a film…

This is the latest entry in the Flavia De Luce series (which I love) and it's set at Christmas, my favourite time of year. Plus it features glamorous film stars... even if they are a bit over the hill now. This story also shares a bit more…

Darn! Don't you hate when two books you have been waiting for forever come due at the same time? I did not finish Mr Bradley's latest Flavia de luce mystery but put myself back in the queue to re-visit later...

I loved this book not so much for the mystery but more for the flights of imagination and the play of the characters. A bit more polished than Bradley's previous books, quieter 'action' until the rooftop debacle at the end.

Don't begin reading the Flavia de Luce's series with this novel. I found Bradley's re-introduction of all of the characters in the previous three novels ...the inhabitants of Buckshaw plus those from the local town...to be rather tedious.…
