MacNeal always ties her Maggie Hope mysteries to the one before and the one still to come; reading them in order is all but obligatory. This one is more complex than most that have come before. Maggie's not only working for Winston Churchill as a member of MI-5, and secretly part of the extra special spy agency SOE, where she's "stuck" in London awaiting the return from a German concentration camp of her half sister Elsa. This time she gets involved with Scotland Yard when a series of murders of young women, all connected with SOE, takes place copying the Jack the Ripper murders. A hint of future romance for Maggie, once she's solved two more cases. One of the best.

Maggie Hope continues her adventures but this time with a murder case imitating Jack the Ripper. MacNeal researches her stories well and this is no exception. Fellow writer, Rhys Bowen is one of her supporters. You could read this alone but the series should be done in order. From London, Maggie is now off to Paris and more adventures.
Reading soon The Paris Spy by Susan Ella MacNeal.

The sixth novel in the Maggie Hope series. It's England in 1942. Maggie has just returned from the US where she went with Winston Churchill to see President Roosevelt. She is working at the SOE offices while she awaits her next assignment. She is drawn into the city wide investigation of a serial murderer, the so-nick named Blackout Beast. The murderer is targeting young women who work for the SOE, some of whom Maggie has helped train. She uses her mathematical skills once again to help track down the killer. I'm looking forward to the next instalment. Once again, the author lets us have a glimpse into the next story before this one ends.
