Best friends Noah Sadler and Abdi Mahad have always been inseparable. But when Noah is found floating unconscious in Bristol's Feeder Canal, Abdi can't - or won't - tell anyone what happened. Detective Jim Clemo is now assigned to look into this unfortunate accident. But tragedy strikes and what looked like the simple case of a prank gone wrong soon ignites into a public battle. Noah is British. Abdi is a Somali refugee. Neither of them know how far they will have to go, what demons they will have to face, what pain they will have to suffer.

Gilly MacMillan is a skilled writer who made a thriller reader out of me. Her stories are concise and plausible with interesting characters who connect with the reader in all sorts of ways. I would rank her above the other domestic writers that are so popular right now. I love than I can never guess and that she ties up loose ends where others leave you scratching your head.

A moving story about two boys with very different backgrounds. They form a very close friendship - but tragedy follows.

This book picks up right where What She Knew left off with DI Clemo having finished his therapy and heading back to work. I didn't really like the Clemo character in What She Knew but I warmed to him a little more in this book as his character was given more dimension and insight. There are no big plot twists or surprises in this book; a steady flow of breadcrumbs lets you figure it all out.

Two fourteen-year old boys sneak out at night but in the morning, one boy is in ICU and the other refuses to speak.
