Not only was this an excellent biographical novel on May Alcott but it served as a fine window on the limited opportunities of women in the 1800's and their efforts to push open doors. Anyone with half an interest in art and painting will also find this book fascinating.

May Alcott spent her life in the shadow of her more successful, more highly praised sister Louisa. Equally talented in her own right, May yearned for approval and recognition, traveling around the world to hone her craft as an artist and be recognized as more than just 'The Other Alcott'.

Hooper's piece is highly researched and an excellent tribute to the Alcott family, an excellent companion piece to the 2017 BBC miniseries 'Little Women'.
