This started slow. I think I was expecting one thing from the diversity of good actors and story line and then, surprisingly, got another. Good ending, yes, but still, it could have been written in a way that the bulk of the movie wasn't so blah.
Kind of a weird little movie that accomplishes in over an hour what Saving Private Ryan presented in the last ten minutes of that great film.
I was surprised to find that most of this film is played as a light comedy about the interactions of some D-Day vets and their families. The cast is excellent and the Normandy locations are evocative. Toward the end things get a little more serious and there are some very powerful emotional scenes. Tears welled up in my eyes (unusual). Alec Guiness delivers an excellent but subtle performance which builds right up to the end of the film.
A really good relationship film that has a surprising performance from Alec Guinness. All the cast make this movie move along and take the viewer along for the ride.
A "little" movie with a couple of nice twists that overcome inherent cliches by virtue of major talents.
Wonderful, low-key drama. Love the actors.
drama about a post war get together over the beaches of Normandy, France. Good and quality too but moved a bit slow for me.
