this "Separation" is brutal, none of the people involved here are pleasant, except for, maybe, the accused, the only one with any sense of honour

Incredible film. It is a relatively simple film but filmed brilliantly. The acting was fantastic, the characters; each one had their flaws but were sympathetic. I also love how the film provides so much on what looks like a very humble budget. Worth watching. Certainly deserved its Academy Award.

Simply put, a wonderful film and deserving of 5 stars!

Outstanding film. An interesting story that's well-told. There are no heroes, no villains, just circumstance, and yet we hang on the outcome. The story is focused, moves at a good pace, there are no extraneous scenes, and even the peripheral characters have substance and depth.

Such a non--political, but family dynamics film....it's universal no matter what country or continent.. So worth a watch, but torn about ending.....SPOILER ALERT!!! Torn about the final decision!

The familial tension at the crux of the film means that every twist and sudden revelation is received by the characters like a knife to the heart, and their private and public pain is excruciatingly real. For me personally, I struggle to watch these kinds of crushingly depressing family dramas, knowing that tragedy lurks in every frame and event. Watching this film was to experience in some small part the suffocating sense of lives slowly spinning out of control, masterfully depicted.

It's basically a soap opera, but what makes it worth watching is that it happens in Iran, and there is NOTHING political in it. It's about the goings-on in two families, each with a mother, father, and a daughter. Lots of suspicion, lots of blame. But not of the USA; we're not in it. What a relief. The main form of dress seems to be faded blue jeans even for some of the women. The court scenes are astonishing for their non-resemblance to ours, and in some ways are a relief compared to ours. I strongly urge you to see it, even if it is a soap opera.

Outstanding! DIrector Asghar Farhadi's other movies (About Elly, Firewords Wednesday, The Past--all held by SPL) are powerful, well crafted stories, but this is tops. Outstanding acting by all 5 principles, strong story, emotionally gripping and astute, wrapped in terrific cultural context. (Kenneth Turan noted: "One fascination of "A Separation" is its depiction of the day-to-day intricacies of this very particular society, the complications of a country with a definite religious/secular divide and a legal system very different from those in the West.")
This movie is not fun or light entertainment, but it is exceptional drama.

Excellent movie, worth watching for miscellanous reasons, also because it's from persi culture - give a good insight about how those people function in islamic state
