Set in Prague, this is a story about the Czech tradition of cooking carp for Christmas dinner. The live carp lives in the family’s bath tub for a few days before being made into a Christmas dinner centerpiece but the boy, Radim, takes pity on the fish and releases him into the Vltava river.

This is a Czech book and Czech tradition. Illustrations are very beautiful depictions of Prague scenery, which brought me right back to my childhood. I was able to read it to my son and even tho the translation is little clumsy, it gave us interesting topic to talk about. Traditions in different cultures. :o)

Nice-looking publication but the story--about a boy who saves a carp from becoming Christmas dinner--didn't interest our kid in the least.
