The Voice That Challenged a Nation

Marian Anderson and the Struggle for Equal Rights
Apr 14, 2013
I recommend this book for teaching African American history. It reveals aspects that numerous African Americans didn't know. This book addresses problems and issues that were encountered in the 20th century. Marian Anderson's life, struggles and achievements during the Civil Rights Movement are the main focus in this book. She wasn’t much known like others such as Martin Luther King but the definition in the story captures the struggle of a famous vocalist. The pictures in the book are very detailed and help the reader to paint the picture that the author is trying to portray. What better way to have text and pictures to fully explain the message. The overall theme of this book is anything is possible and all you have to do is believe in yourself.
