Is it possible that, at the end of the day, DeMille is really a frustrated humour writer? Consider his main protagonist in this "Lion" series, John Wahtsisname. A character of irreverence, cynicism, sarcasm, sassy wit (?), racism, chauvinism, flippancy and misogyny. All the ingredients you need for a late night stand-up comedy show. Right? But all the same, in spite of all these warts and mega-shortcomings he is, in the end, the glue that holds this novel together as a works hard to foil the Lion, Asad Khail who has already killed all the passengers on a transatlantic flight before he even gets here. If you get a kick out of this novel, you're in luck, there are a lot more instalments in this series.
