PTSD writ large. 60 yrs+ after WWII Avey relates his tremendous tale as a POW in Italy & Poland. As a captured private he was forced to work unlike officers. Post war he was discouraged from speaking about his experiences as he"had let the side down" by becoming a POWw & working for the enemy. Where did he work? AUSCHWitz! Next door to the extermination camps of Russians, Roma, Jews. Amazingly he snuck into the Jewish camp twice to witness the horrors which never left him.
