The first stand alone novel to feature Miss Marple, Agatha Christie's "The Murder at the Vicarage" withstands the test of time and delivers an immersive mystery with vivid characters and storytelling that make it hard to be able to put this book down until you see it through to the end. This story was particularly interesting for me as all the clues and characters are not revealed early on which made it tricky to be able to guess what would come next, this allowed myself to be more fully engaged in the book and to work diligently in getting to the reveals and twists rather than feeling I could guess the ending myself within the first segment of the book. Beyond the story-line Christie also provides a good dose of self aware humor throughout the book that felt ahead of its time and took me pleasantly by surprise. This added greatly to the book as the humor added in by many characters across the board helped to make the story feel more alive and true to life. Overall this was a highly enjoyable novel to read, and it is simply amazing that after being first published in 1930 it still remains a refreshing and engaging murder mystery thriller.
