I must admit, I'm probably giving this film more stars than it deserves. By no means do I think this film should have collected all the Oscars. However, I genuinely enjoy it. It's sweet and kind and makes sense to me. It's not sugar-coated to the point of sticky; it's realistic (to a point) without being abrasive for everyone. It's the perfect family film in my mind, honest without condescension. It's one of my favourite Whoopi Goldberg films, too (excluding, of course, films like GHOST and THE COLOR PURPLE, and, of course, a popular guilty pleasure, SISTER ACT), which I suppose is a pretty big compliment considering the number of films in which Whoopi has appeared. In summation, this film may not be flawless, no, but it's lovely and warm. I will always hold it in high regard and close to my heart, and for that, I highly recommend it.
